Unique Itinerary – Seabourn’s Northern European Sojourn

There’s nothing quite like a cruise through Northern Europe. With its remarkable mix of history, culture and natural beauty, the fjords of Norway, the maritime history of Germany and the laid-back atmosphere of Copenhagen have been delighting people for centuries. For cruisers, there’s a seemingly endless assortment of itineraries to choose from, and this week we’ve picked a stellar offering from Seattle-based luxury line, Seabourn.

Seabourn's Northern European Sojourn itinerary takes passengers on a ten-day voyage from Hamburg to Copenhagen. Illustration courtesy of Seabourn.
Departing on June 5, 2012 from the historic German port city of Hamburg, guests will sail aboard the chic new Seabourn Sojourn to six ports in Norway and one port in Sweden before finally completing their voyage in Copenhagen, Denmark. Along the way, they’ll get to cruise the spectacular Geirangerfjord and amble around the postcard-perfect beauty of Olden, Norway.

But it’s the full collection of ports that makes this such a special voyage. Few itineraries begin in Hamburg and end in Copenhagen, and fewer still include so many different calls in Norway, from the northern beauty of Alesund to the vibrance of the Norwegian capital, Oslo. There’s also time to stop in Gothenburg, Sweden; a pretty canal-lined city with a rich maritime history that impressed us when we called there last summer.

Of course, being able to experience these beautiful ports aboard Seabourn Sojourn is a major part of the appeal of this itinerary. With 225 suites, an 11,400 square-foot Spa, terraced outdoor deck space and even a nine-hole putting green, Seabourn Sojourn is proof that good things can come in midsized packages. At 650 feet in length, she carries just 450 guests – a refreshing change for anyone looking to escape the mega passenger counts of the newest “megaships.”
All in all, this Seabourn itinerary is a decidedly modern way to explore the timeless elegance of the “Old World.”
