One of the most successful features here on From the Deck Chair is without a doubt our Live Voyage Reports.

In the past, we’ve sailed with Norwegian Cruise Line aboard Norwegian Epic in the Caribbean; explored the Baltics with Windstar Cruises aboard their hybrid sail-engine powered Wind Spirit; discovered Europe’s Christmas Markets aboard AmaWaterways’s stunning AmaLyra; and many others, all of which are available under the Live Voyages tab in the menu bar at the top of this page.

Now, we’re ready to take the wraps off our next two Live Voyage Reports.

On Saturday, May 5, we’ll board Holland America Line’s Oosterdam for a one-day jaunt from our homeport of Vancouver, Canada down to Seattle, Washington. Each May and September, numerous one day ‘repositioning cruises’ are offered between these two major gateways to Alaska, and single day cruises are becoming more popular from ports like New York, Miami, and Boston.

Are they worth your time? Find out this weekend! Because we’re only onboard for a single day, we’ll have our report the following day, on Sunday, May 6, 2012.

In July, we’re embarking on an adventure that I’ve been eyeing for years: the chance to sail on an expedition vessel to Alaska. But this is no ordinary expedition ship: she is the HANSEATIC, one of the five-star expedition ships in German-based Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ fleet. We’ll sail from Seward to Vancouver on a 14-day expedition voyage that calls on both the major ports in Alaska, and the ones that you may not have heard of.
