Whenever I’m about to take a voyage and do a Live Voyage Report, like the one that is about to begin this Friday, I spend a lot of time researching the ports of call that I’ll be visiting – and nothing excites me more than discovering that a port is as excited about our visit as I am.

The English port of Lyme Regis hasn’t had a regular cruise ship visit in recent memory, and the town’s excitement about Silversea Expeditions’ Silver Explorer calling this coming Sunday is evident. Nearly every “What’s On” site detailing notable events and occasions in the seaside resort town includes Silver Explorer’s visit prominently.

Even the Royal Navy will be there to see us in: HMS Edinburgh will be anchored just offshore, in port as part of celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. For you and me, that means the 60th anniversary of her ascension to the throne following the death of her father, King George VI in 1952.

It’s a refreshing change to see a town so eager for their first cruise ship visit, and one that coincides with such an important celebration.

So what’s it like today in Lyme Regis? Have a peek at their truly live webcam and get a glimpse of the English coast for yourself!

Stay tuned for our Live Voyage Report coverage from Lyme Regis on Sunday, May 20, 2012 aboard Silversea’s Silver Explorer!
