Norwegian’s Breakaway Blog

Did you know that Norwegian Cruise Line has set up a dedicated blog chronicling the construction of their newest vessel, the forthcoming Norwegian Breakaway? I didn’t. But with the ship just now starting to take shape at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, there’s good reason why you might want to tune in.

Although slightly smaller at 144,000 tons, Norwegian Breakaway will combine the best features pioneered by the mammoth Norwegian Epic and put her own distinct twist on them. Gone are the wavy staterooms that caused so much controversy aboard Norwegian Epic, replaced instead with more traditional ones featuring flat walls. But traditional certainly doesn’t mean boring; these rooms are more well-appointed than anything that’s come before them.

Other features abound, including four different waterslides mounted topside to Norwegian Breakaway’s funnel, along with a three-story sports court venue that’s sure to keep event the most active cruiser, well, active!

Several old favourites have also returned, like the wood-panelled Cagney’s Steakhouse specialty restaurant and the French-inspired Le Bistro. Popular bars like Maltings, Shakers, and the Bliss Ultra Lounge also return on Norwegian Breakaway.

But those who appreciated the beautiful design of many of Norwegian Epic’s public areas won’t be disappointed. Renderings from Norwegian Breakaway indicated passengers can expect more of what has made Norwegian’s past ships stylish, trend-setting, and above all else, fun.
