Unique Itinerary: From Tokyo to Beijing with Silversea

It may be the start of August, but we’re already looking to the fall for great cruise deals as ships reposition from one region to the other in advance of the winter months. And ultra-luxury line Silversea has a great one on offer for September: an exciting 11-day voyage from Tokyo, Japan to Tianjin, China, gateway to the famous city of Beijing.
Your home away from home for nearly two weeks: the spacious, elegant Silver Shadow. Constructed in 2000, she sparkles like new thanks to a recent refurbishment that gave her interiors a modern refresh and added some signature touches the line has pioneered aboard their flagship, the 2009-built Silver Spirit.
Beginning in the capital of Japanese capital of Tokyo, this exciting voyage calls on both Kagoshima and Nagasaki before heading south to Jeju, South Korea. A popular resort destination, Jeju is also one of South Korea’s most important cities and is famous for its orange and mandarin production.
Afterwards, an overnight stay in the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai provides ample opportunities to explore this fascinating, one-of-a-kind city. A call on Incheon, South Korea for Seoul precedes the conclusion of the cruise in Tanjin, the Chinese port for Beijing.

The vibrant city of Shanghai can be explored by day or night, thanks to an overnight call on Silver Shadow’s fantastic itinerary. Photo courtesy of Wikipedia / Commons.
Along the way, guests are treated to some special enrichment features onboard. Certified Bridge instructors will be sailing aboard Voyage 3228, as will Silversea’s own Culinary Trainer, David Bilsland. If you’re a foodie, this is the guy you want to get to know. We had the privilege of sailing with Mr. Bilsland on a previous Silversea voyage, and he is truly passionate about good food.
Also onboard are Dr. Herb Keyser, author of World Traveler, Music Expert; and Mason Florence, photojournalist and co-author of Lonely Planet’s Vietnam and Southeast Asia guidebook. All are onboard to enrich guests’ experiences by providing their own unique insight into their particular field of expertise.
The relaxed, elegant onboard atmosphere and enrichment activities may be reason enough to take this voyage, but the full itinerary offers opportunities for a host of adventures ashore:

There are some other compelling reasons to consider this adventurous voyage: Silversea is offering a $1,000 Onboard Spending Credit per suite, which goes a long way on a ship that is nearly all-inclusive. In fact, the only items you’ll pay extra for are shore excursions, spa and gift shop purchases, and Silversea’s signature specialty restaurant, Le Champagne – well worth the price of admission.

To sweeten the deal, the line will also throw in free Business Class airfare and transfers between the airport and the ship for guests booking Silver, Royal, Grand or Owner’s Suites, provided they depart from select major gateways. If you’ve ever had the privilege to fly Business Class before, you’ll know what a huge perk this is, particularly for westbound travel between North America and Asia. Full details can be found here.
