October 27, 1957. That’s the day I was born. October 27, 2015. That’s the day I spent in one of the most beautiful places ever: Symi, Greece.
Few, if any, of us on Seabourn Sojourn had visited this charming Greek island just 12 miles from Turkey. Francisco, Seabourn Sojourn’s shore concierge manager, was in as much awe as we were as we toured this tiny town that sprawls up hillsides.
The 1988 film Pascali’s Island, starring Ben Kingsley and Helen Mirren, was filmed here. On our visit, every turn around every corner revealed something that looked like it came from a Hollywood set.
Here’s my day in pictures — make that my birthday in pictures — on the island of Symi.

Great pictures, Ralph, thanks! And a slightly belated Happy Birthday wish. Looks like you were in a fine place to celebrate it. We enjoyed two Seabourn trips this year, a month long China Sea cruise on Sojourn and a Quest trip to the fjords of Norway. After we got off the Quest in Copenhagen we spent two weeks driving around Sweden, a trip chosen mostly because of your posts about the country.
Thank you David! I should let Sweden’s Royal Family know that I’ve been working hard to promote their country 🙂 Sweden is a lovely place. I hope you enjoyed your time here. I certainly love it. Wishing you safe continued travels.
Thanks, Ralph. BTW, we are booked on Regent’s SS Explorer for its maiden voyage next July. Are you going to be on it?
Not sure that I will be on that voyage David, but hope to experience Regent.
